Apple Magic Trackpad

I've had this for about a month and I'm really impressed with the gesture controls. Being able to swipe between full-screen apps, access Mission Control, and zoom in and out with simple finger movements feels like magic. The haptic click is surprisingly satisfying. The build quality is excellent and it looks great on my desk. USB-C charging is convenient. My only hesitation is the price. $129 is a lot for a trackpad. I got mine on sale for $99 which felt more reasonable. At full price I'd probably tell people to think carefully about whether they really need it. But if you do a lot of multitasking on a Mac, it's hard to beat.

I ordered a refurbished Magic Trackpad and it came in better than expected condition. There's a tiny scuff on one corner but the glass surface is flawless. Works perfectly with my MacBook Air. The gestures are really nice once you get used to them. I especially like being able to swipe between desktops. For the refurbished price (about $75) this was great value. Would definitely recommend going refurbished if you want to save some money.

I can flick through a 50-page PDF in seconds and stop exactly where I need to be. The precision is remarkable. I can scroll line by line or send a document flying with a fast swipe. The haptic feedback is one of those features that's hard to appreciate until you try it. The trackpad doesn't actually move when you click, but the haptic engine creates such a convincing sensation that your brain thinks it's a real mechanical click. It's consistent across the entire surface, so you can click anywhere and get the same response. This is actually better than a real mechanical click because there are no dead zones or inconsistent spots. The USB-C charging is convenient. I keep a USB-C cable on my desk for my MacBook anyway, so charging the trackpad is as simple as plugging it in for an hour every few weeks. I bought mine refurbished for $85, which felt like a fair price. At full retail, I think you really need to evaluate whether the gesture controls are worth the premium for your specific use case. The learning curve is real. For the first few days, I found myself accidentally triggering gestures and missing the precision of a mouse for certain tasks. It took about a week to feel comfortable and maybe two weeks before the gestures became automatic. Some people might not have the patience for that adjustment period.
